12 Signs You Need A New Website

Every business should have an online presence. While it is important to have an eye catching logo and consistent branding across your website, it is more important that your website is easy to navigate, works well, and brings in sales. Here are 12 signs it might be time for your company’s website to get an update.

1. It has not gone through a re-design in 2-3 years 

Most websites are updated every 18-24 months. When a website is older than that, it is time for it to be updated or to create a new website altogether.

2. Your bounce rate is too high

Bounce Rate, or percentage of visitors who land on a website and then leave without visiting any other pages on the site, should be fairly low. You can find your website’s bounce rate on Google Analytics. A decent bounce rate is usually between 40-50%. If your websites’ bounce rate is much higher than that, it is time for a website redesign.

3. It takes your website too long to load

People are looking for information quickly, and if your website takes too long to load, you may lose potential customers.47 percent of consumers expect a site to load in 2 seconds or less, so if your site is slower than that, consider creating an updated site that with a fast site speed.

4. It is not mobile-friendly

If your site doesn’t look good on mobile, then you may be missing out on traffic. Most current, up-to-date sites are mobile-friendly, meaning that the formatting looks different on a phone and tablet versus your computer, which makes it easier to read on all devices. If your site is not mobile friendly, it is time to update your site.

5. It is not easy to add content and do simple updates to your website

You should be able to easily update your website. Content Management Systems make it much easier for almost anyone manage a website, and add new information. If you aren’t easily able to do this, your website may be too old.

6. It is not ranking in search engines

There are a lot of factors that go into ranking in search engines, but if your website is not ranking well, it might be time for a new website. If your company is planning on rebranding, your website needs to be included in the re-branding process. If you are changing messaging, logos, or visual aspects like color schemes and fonts, your website should reflect those changes as well. It is important that your company presents a unified brand along all platforms, including your website.

If you are planning on releasing a new product or service, your website needs to be updated to feature it’s release and it needs to be added into your products/services section on the website. Your website should be updated every time a new product or service is released.

10. Your product offerings are not up-to-date on your site

Like above, your website should feature every product or service you are offering. It is important to ensure your website is conveying what your sales team is selling. If this is unclear on your current website, it is time for an upgrade.

11. Your audience has changed since the last time you updated your site

Is the message of your website not resonating with your target buyer(s)? Target demographics change, and it is important that your messaging changes along with it. Take a look at your website to see if it still sends the right message to your new audience. If not, it is time to create new messaging for your website.
